The Idea of Yoga

How was everyone’s Monday?! Yesterday, was great! Jumped right back into the swing of things. It was a day of catching up on lots of emails/calls/and work. It was definitely a long Monday! I even ended my day with a little body pump!IMG_3020


Oh and can we talk about The Bachelor?! Can you say #drama My goodness! Lots of crazies and fun! Who do you like so far?! I still think it’s too soon to tell, but I did like Brit! I can wait to see what this season hold, my total Monday night guilty pleasure!

Today, I am trying a yoga class. I don’t really “like” yoga but I think I love the idea of yoga. I personally feel It’s too slow, leaves me with my thoughts, thinking of everything else I could be doing, makes me feel anxious… Not sure why?! You may be thinking… Then why are you going to a yoga class? #weirdo
Because my friends, I feel need it. I need the movement, I need the calmness, stillness, and to learn how to center my thoughts. I’m not even sure I know what the means. But the “idea” of centering my thoughts sounds like what I need. I constantly crave the feeling that yoga gives…Or maybe it’s the idea of yoga I crave. That “let it be” motto, go with flow attitude, calm ora that I’m striving for in 205. Is that real life? I mean, come on?! Any yogis out there, can you justify!
One of my “intentions” for the new year is to be more mindful. More mindful in all I do! To be present in all moments. And that folks, is hard for me! I think it’s hard for most, right?! I can’t be alone in thinking that! That’s why yoga and meditative practices are so challenging for me. I mean, #TheStruggleIsReal.

Back to Basics

First of all…Happy 2015! WOW! I am really coming off from a long, amazing, fun/food-filled holiday bender! Are you?! I am SO ready to get back in the swing of things around here after all the fun. ¬†I spend ALL weekend organizing, cleaning, cooking, and figuring out how to make this year better than the last. I think I have some good ideas! ūüėČ ¬†and thanks to Heather from FitNCookies , my blog¬†will stay more organized! (More on that later in the week!)

Today, I want to chat about going back to the basics.  This month, I want to focus on cleaning up my diet a bit! After a season of holiday festivities, it could use it! More fruits, more veggies, more water! All about the healthy eating in this house.

Yesterday, while figuring out how to keep¬†my health goals attainable, I started to think about what I always tell my clients. ¬†I actually took my own advice, I “walked the walk”. ¬† It may sound silly, but these easy tips will help you stay on top of your healthy eating goals for 2015. ¬†None of these tips are new, rocket science, or state of the art…however, they work!

Back to basics fridge organization

Taking it old school…

  1. ¬†Plan Ahead. I can’t stress this enough! What will you eat? Do you have enough food to last you until you head back to the store? Healthy options to grab and go? We all know what happens when you’re not prepared. ¬†Think, plan, shop, prep!
  2. Meal Prep. Yesterday, I prepped all my veggies, salads, and snacks. ¬†As you can see above in my fridge! I have carrots, celery, cucumbers, tomatoes, and red pepper! I made a bunch of hard-boiled eggs too! I created¬†a quinoa salad with loads of veggies. ¬†I didn’t add any seasoning or dressing, so we can switch it up through the week. ¬†It’s so much less stressful to make a salad with 90% of the work is already done for you.
  3. Stick to your list. I think this was the first time in a LONG time that I made a grocery list and stuck to it 95% of the time.  I was proud of myself.  I was also realistic about what to add to our grocery list.  Snacks and treats were on the list too, I know its important to indulge!! But I planned them into the week!
  4. It’s all about the placement. ¬†I switched around my whole fridge around yesterday. ¬†All my fruit, veggies, and healthy grab and go snacks are all placed conveniently on top. ¬†All in clear containers so I can see whats inside. I am much more likely to grab carrots and celery if they are placed in my face and already cut up!! Again, it’s all about the placement!
  5. Keep track. When I am “cleaning” up my diet and trying to lose a few pounds, it’s essential for me to track. ¬†I know, it’s not for everyone, but that is what works best for me. I either write it all done, or on my phone! ¬†It really helps me to look at what I am eating and how I can improve. ¬†I will be tracking with Weight Watchers, simply because I love it, and it works really well for me!

Virtual Coffee Date

Good Morning!  How is everyone this morning?!
One of my favorite blogs, Eat, Live, Run, will often write a post called a virtual coffee date, it’s simply a post as if we were having a coffee date! Like if you and I were sitting at my local coffee shop, what would we talk about? ¬†Gossiping, catching up on life, ya know…chatting it up! I really¬†loved the idea of the “coffee dates” so I decided to borrow it!
So, grab yourself a hot cup of coffee and lets start talking…go ahead, I’ll wait!¬†
If we were having coffee this morning, I would tell you that I am leaving to go on vacation tomorrow morning! EKKKKKK! I am SO excited! To actually be off for 10 days…I can’t even begin to show my excitement! ¬†I am totally burnt out from work, and could really use a recharge. We are heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! I think what I am most excited for is relaxing by the beach. Nick and I are headed there with his family and we both are really looking forward to it. Sun, fun, family, and relaxation! What more can you ask for?! ¬†¬†
I would tell you that even though I am SO excited for vacation, I am anxious about leaving Henry! I know, I know! People think I am crazy! My mom is going to be watching Henry for the week. She is in for it! I am sure they will have a blast! ūüėČ THANKS MOM!!! ¬†(As I am writing this, he is curled up next to me, I can’t even stand the cuteness!)
I would tell you that I am disappointed in myself because I haven’t been exercising regularly like I should! My schedule has been a little hectic (Sounds like a typical excuse!). ¬†I have squeezed it in when I can, but have felt guilty about it. ¬†I guess I am only human…right?! Please tell me I am not the only one!¬†
I would ask you what books your currently reading. ¬†I am planning on reading at the beach. ¬†I have about 100000 books that are on my “to read” list. ¬†Up first…The MatchMaker by Elin Hilderbrand¬†I think it will be the perfect beach read! Also on my list, The Silent Wife by A.S.A Harrison. ¬†Let me know if you have any suggestions to add to my list!¬†
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I cannot stop listening to Rather be by Clean Bandit, latch by Disclosure. ¬†I would also tell you that I have been obsessed with Nora Jones station on IheartRadio! Random! It’s the best with a glass of red wine in hand.
And lastly, I would share with you my new favorite summer drink! There is a local bar that sells a drink called a cucumber peel….Cucumber vodka, lemon, and club soda, with a big cucumber slice in it. ¬†Guys…its to die for! If I were to recreate it, I would add mint!¬†

Healthy Reading~Blog LOVE

Is it already Monday? Sigh… Where do the weekends go, they sure do fly by! Did you do anything fun and exciting? I had a very relaxing weekend and was totally okay with it.¬†
I spend a lot of time reading blogs, all types. I find a new one everyday! 2013 Goals

2013 goals

For the New Year, I decided to set a few goals. ¬†Not¬†necessarily¬†resolutions, but goals. ¬†In 2013, I want to strive to be the best person I can be, in all areas of my life. Who doesn’t?! ¬†I don’t want the added stress of “New Year Resolutions” because most the time, they don’t last. I just want to try to make healthy choices and be a better person. ¬†Sound so hard? We shall see! Let’s get started.

fitness goalsI’ll admit it, I have been MAJORLY slacking in this department. And to be honest, I am not quite sure why. ¬†All I know is that I love to exercise, and I need to get back into the swing of things. I am human, it happens. ¬†Please tell me I am not alone! So this year is all about fitting FITNESS into my life. ¬†
1. Get back into running.  Remember those AWESOME running shoes I bought, yea I need to dust those off.  I loved how I felt when I was running.  I felt strong.
2. Sign up for more 5k’s. ¬†I loved running for an important cause.
3. Incorporate Yoga into my life. ¬†The benefits of Yoga are endless, and let’s be honest… I need more serenity in my life. ¬†
4. Stretch everyday!

As for my overall health, I just want to make choices everyday that my future self with thank me for. ¬†Ya know?! We have so much control over what we do, eat, say, and feel. ¬†I am ready to take over. ¬†ūüôā¬†
1. Pack my lunch everyday! Not only will I save money, but I will for sure feel better and have control over what I eat. 
2. Meditate.  If not everyday, every other.  
3. I am learning to BE in the moment. ¬†I REALLY struggle with this, it’s a challenge. ¬†Just enjoying the present moment, and letting it alllllll be!¬†
4. Cooking more.  Experimenting and getting creative in the kitchen with healthy recipes. I love to cook! I need to take advantage of my cooking light subscription! 
5. I want to do more and more research on where my food is coming from.  I would like to try my best in eliminating processed foods from my diet. I do not eat much, but I would just like to be more aware! 
6.  I want to keep learning about how to be healthy and spread the knowledge! 
 I have a lot of things I want to carry out this year.  
1. I want to increase my readers for my blog. ¬†I REALLY enjoy sharing my life and blogging. ¬†It’s fun!¬†
2. I want to keep researching on how to better my blog. ¬†Stay tuned! ūüôā¬†
3. Attend a blogging conference! It would be so fun to meeting so many of other bloggers and sharing stories.  I feel I would learn SO MUCH! 
4. As I have mentioned before, I am a HUGE reader.  I want to read AT LEAST 1 book a month or more.  This totally doable for me if I manage my time properly (also a goal!)
5. I got a sewing machine for¬†Christmas! I want to learn how to sew this year! I am starting a 7 week program through this awesome blog I found… Crazy Little Projects!¬†I am SO excited!!!¬†
6. TRAVEL! Anywhere…and I’ll be happy!¬†
7. Become a morning person. ¬†I want to enjoy my mornings! Its a work in progress…just ask Nick!! ūüėČ
8. ¬†I could go on and on…these are my top goals!!!
So there you have it folks…those are my 2013 goals!!! Whoa!
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post,¬†I LOVE ¬†the feeling of the fresh new start that January 1st gives you. We have a brand spanking new slate to work with. The whole year to create the life we want to live, and how we want to live it! ¬†I have so many things I want to work on and accomplish. I am SO thankful for this past year. I have learned so much about myself, others, and loved ones. There were many highs and lows; new & exciting endeavors. I can’t wait to see what 2013 holds. I have a feeling it will be a pretty fabulous year.¬†
