If you follow me on social media… {SNAP: Jhiggs787} and {IG:Myhealthypassion} YOU KNOW…I have been LOVING a very specific protein powder.  Like seriously LOVING! I can’t stop talking about it.

but before I get to that…let’s talk about why I normally do not eat protein powders.

  1. I don’t like the “chalky” taste it leaves.
  2. I don’t care for the 800 million ingredients.
  3. Lots of artificial sweeteners.
  4. They simply do not taste good.

Now….I was super stoked when I received an amazing package from AMAZING GRASS. It was the best care package EVER.  I am all about on the go breakfast and I want so badly to love shakes…but never did.  But I wasn’t sure how I felt about the powder.  Because, I normally do not like them, remember all of the above statements.

I started to look at the ingredients, and I’ll be honest, I was super impressed. I LOVED that it was plant based.  Amazing Grass Protein SuperFood contains a unique blend of USDA Organic pea, hemp, chia and quinoa, delivering 20g of complete plant-based protein per serving plus 7 alkalizing organic greens and two-full servings of wholesome fruits and vegetables. Each flavor is also grain-free, paleo friendly, and can be enjoyed alone with water, added to a smoothie or almond, cashew or coconut milk. The line’s unique pea protein is the only available source that is 100 percent grown, harvested and processed in the USA, providing one of the smoothest, best tasting plant-based proteins on the market. I mean, I was excited to try it.

Then my friends…I tasted it.  I LOVED it.  I threw into my blender a scoop of vanilla powder, strawberries, ice, water, and a heaping spoonful of peanut butter.  (I also tried the chocolate peanut butter and AMAZING) I LOVED IT! This powder has turned me into a smoothie machine.

I never like powders, but this one is different.  I want to shout from the roof tops how much I love it.  Take my word for it, try it. You will NOT be disappointed!

Let me know if you do…you will LOVE it!!!

Are you a protein powder fan, this one has made me a believer!

Tropical Yogurt Bites

tropical bitesLately, I love yogurt. Like a lot.  It’s a breakfast/snack/lunch staple in this house.  So I got to thinking…It can also be a delicious dessert.  After dinner…or before, I most often crave something sweet, just a taste.  I always end up in the kitchen hunting for something to snack on.  So I of course got to work.  And here is what I came up with! Tropical Yogurt Bites!! Protein packed with a touch of sweetness and crunch.

Now, this has to be the most versatile snack/dessert of all time.  Honestly, you could make these yogurt bites with just about anything you would like. Any fresh/frozen fruit…nuts…chocolate… any kind of yogurt! I personally like to use Chobani Greek yogurt.  Its PACKED with protein and has awesome flavors.  I am already thinking about my next creation…white chocolate raspberry yogurt bites! But first, let’s discuss these guys.  They are a great grab and go healthy snack OR a nice little “Ice Cream” dessert without all the added fat, calories, and  sugar. My kinda snack!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Peach Greek yogurt (I always use Chobani, my favorite!)
  • 1/2 Cup Fresh or Canned pineapple in their own juice
  • 1/3 Cup Chopped Raw Almonds
  • 1/4 Heaping Cup Dark Chocolate Chips

Directions:

  1. Chop almonds and pineapple.
  2. In large bowl, Mix all ingredients together.
  3. Spoon mixture into ice-cube trays OR spread in a freezer safe pan for yogurt bars (YOUR CHOICE) 🙂
  4. Freeze, relax, enjoy!
  5. Once frozen, I always empty ice-cube tray into freezer bag.

Calories…A Love/Hate Relationship

Food for thought….

Hey Everyone!! It has been awhile, I have been super busy, no excuses! Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day and also, Happy Spring (my FAV season!)  Now on to an important topic…Calories!

More than half of American’s are overweight, we all know this. Consumption of unhealthy food is out of control, along with portion sizes.  A word that you hear at least twice a day if not 100 times a day is…Calories! The science behind weight loss is fairly easy…Calories in, calories out.  We count them, subtract them, add them, burn them, and obsess over them.  But do we really know what a calorie is. There are millions of diets out there.  The bottom line, they are all limiting calorie consumption.

A calorie is a unit of measurement.  No, it is not a measurement of weight or length, it’s a unit of energy.  If you eat a bowl of cereal that has 250 calories, it is describing how much energy your body could potentially get from eating it.   We need calories, however, when we eat too much and burn too little…we gain weight.

Calories are composed of 3 Macro-nutrients; Protein, Fat, and Carbohydrates. Our bodies receive 4 calories per gram of Protein, 4 calories per gram of Carbohydrates, and 9 calories per gram of Fat. Turn that food label around and check it out! Go on…if you know how many grams of fat, carbohydrates, and protein are in your food, you can calculate the calories.  Do the math.

Check out the article from NY TIMES that has an upfront opinion on Calories!
